North Country | "God's Love Between Us"
Our North Country Teen campers gathered together at
His Thousand Hills to learn about 1 Corinthians 13, the Love Chapter. Our
theme was "God's Love Between Us". Our codirectior Ben Nevin had just been
married on the Saturday before the camp began on Monday, so we were all
excited to meet his wife Sarah and get to know her better. The HTH staff
presented them with gifts and a candlelight table and a special "wedding"
cake to help us all celebrate. Our Bible Rap times dealt with what true
love is like and how it affects us as we relate to each other, especially in
a church or camp setting.
Our group split into 3 smaller groups and each group
had a chance to go for a "wilderness" experience, a time for crafts and a
time of doing a work project for the camp.
On the last day of camp we all had the chance to try
a challenge on the low ropes course which required a true team spirit to
complete, and to try the climbing tower. Many faced the fear of the high
tower for the first time and came zipping down the zip line with big smiles.
We also took the bus for swimming at Ives Run.
Of course we had our traditional game of Capture the
Flag and our night game of Get Smart and our "dress up" dinner. Each day
concluded with a campfire and a time to do some soul searching. We also
enjoyed helping Andrew Kerlin celebrate his 13th birthday on Friday the
13th! He entertained us with his juggling!
We were very proud to have 2 of our former LITs
serving as staff for His Thousand Hills this summer - Cindy Castle and Sarah
Antes. Cindy will be a junior at Houghton College and Sarah will be a
freshman there this fall. We give thanks to all the HTH staff and those who
help out as counselors. And special thanks to our other codirector "Fej"
Jeff Brewster who comes back to the area to help out each summer. It just
wouldn't be camp without Fej!
